Job Description: Oneida County is accepting applications to fill two Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program Assistant Limited Term Employee (LTE) positions with the Land & Water Conservation Department’s AIS Program for the summer of 2026. These positions assist the AIS Coordinator with AIS prevention, control, education, and outreach activities to protect and enhance the waters of Oneida County. These positions are excellent resume-builders for future careers in natural resources and conservation.

The AIS Program Assistant LTE position is based upon a 40‑hour a week schedule throughout the summer for up to 475 hours at $16.00 per hour. May be required to work an occasional evening and weekend. Employment will run from May through Labor Day weekend, start and end dates are flexible based on LTE’s availability.

Projects include (but are not limited to):

• AIS monitoring, sampling, management, control, and purple loosestrife biocontrol
• Water quality sampling, point intercept surveys
• Data collection, reporting and GPS mapping
• Collaborative efforts with WDNR, partners, volunteers, lake groups, schools, bait shops and other stakeholders
• AIS related campaigns, workshops, trainings, education, outreach and prevention activities
• Maintain daily reports, field data, and records
• Distribute outreach material, update website, and attend trainings
• Maintain, calibrate and decontaminate all field equipment, supplies and gear
• All other duties as time allows or as assigned

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 or older, have a high school degree or equivalent, and a valid WI driver’s license
• A reliable vehicle and proof of vehicle insurance is required; mileage reimbursement is provided
• Comfortable conducting field work in a wide range of aquatic habitats and terrain, in variable weather conditions, and in various watercrafts
• Able to work with a team and independently; excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and coworkers in a friendly, positive manner
• Good work ethic, flexible and can make good independent decisions based on practices, rules, and procedures
• Prior experience with AIS or aquatic plant identification is preferred, but not necessary. Training is provided.
