LTE Summer Ranger

LOCATION:
Oneida County, WI. Reporting work station (Rhinelander)
RATE OF PAY: $18.73 per hour
JOB DUTIES:
Conducts patrols through County Forest recreational facilities and land holdings for the purpose of ensuring adherence to public use regulations, dispensing visitor information and use data, and respond to public complaints. Performs routine park maintenance duties; performance of other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be willing to work outside under variable weather and environmental conditions, possess the ability to work independently and with little supervision, lift moderate weight, walk long distances on uneven ground, communicate effectively with public, and possess above average verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check. Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License throughout employment, and be experienced with lawn maintenance equipment and small power tools. A field vehicle and all tools/supplies required will be provided by the County. Practical work experience and/or technical training in law enforcement and/or security work is considered a plus, but is not mandatory. Great resume experience for those working towards a career in parks and recreation or law enforcement.
PERSONAL WORK CLOTHING:
Oneida County Forestry Department policy requires that all LTE’s wear appropriate clothing for fieldwork including appropriate work boots, long work pants, and rain-gear as needed. The previously mentioned items are considered personal work-wear; as such, the employee is expected to provide their own personal work-wear.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Five days per week (approximately 30.5 hours per week).
Evening Shift (2:00 pm – 9:00 pm) 6.5 hours paid + ½ hour unpaid dinner break.
Day Shift (typically 9:00 am – 3:00 pm) 5.5 hours paid + ½ hour unpaid lunch break.
Individual hired for the Ranger Position is expected to work Holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th & Labor Day), Friday evenings, every weekend (Saturday evening shift/Sunday day shift), and other weekday evenings as scheduled. Hours may vary due to weather or special events.
EMPLOYMENT DATES:
Approximately May 18, 2026 – September 13, 2026.
Position start and end dates are somewhat flexible.
