Sand County Environmental, Inc. (SCE) is a small environmental consulting firm seeking a motivated, dynamic environmental technician for a full‑time position. SCE provides a full range of environmental consulting services with unique expertise in phytotechnologies, agricultural chemicals, stormwater management, and landfill data evaluation. We are an environmental consulting firm consisting of soil scientists, hydrologists, geologists, and engineers. SCE performs work nationwide, with current projects extending from California to Indiana.
Our primary offices are in Rosholt and Rhinelander, and two single‑employee‑run offices in Johnson Creek and Plymouth, Wisconsin.

Position DescriptionThis full‑time, entry‑level position will support senior staff with fieldwork, data collection, and the compilation of analytical information to complete environmental investigation and remediation projects. The position will transition to increased responsibilities and decision‑making as skill sets develop. This position will be in SCE’s Rhinelander office. Duties may include the following:
- Assist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, stormwater inspections, and environmental investigations.
- Plan field deployments.
- Conduct soil and groundwater sampling at landfills and agricultural sites.
- Phytotechnology system installation and maintenance, including irrigation systems.
- Physical labor, including building, mowing, fencing, etc.
- Compile field data into tables and reports.
This position requires some travel. Most jobs are located in‑state and allow you to return home each night, though an occasional night away from home is needed. We do have some projects out of state that require a two‑week travel schedule, completed twice a year in March and October.
The ideal candidates will meet the following requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Basic skills with hand and power tools, small engines, etc.
- Comfort in the outdoors and the ability to perform year‑round fieldwork.
- Detail‑oriented, flexible, self‑motivated, and able to work with limited supervision.
- Honest, hard‑working, and ready to learn.
- Able to pass pre‑employment drug screening. Random drug testing is a requirement.
- Willingness to work away from home for a maximum of 2 weeks at a time, up to 2 times per year.
Compensation will be based on experience. The hourly pay for entry‑level positions will range from $21.00 to $24.00.
Please note that this position has a 120‑day probationary period. During this period, the position is not eligible for benefits. However, after the probationary period, the benefits will include:
