The University of Rhode Island is seeking an a Clinical Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice to support a new Master's program in Mental and Behavioral Health Counseling

The clinical faculty appointment to begin Summer 2026.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will contribute to both the Master's in Mental and Behavioral Health Counseling, as well as the Doctoral program in Clinical Psychology through teaching, leadership, and service to the university and community. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to clinical supervision and training, as well as mentorship and teaching at the graduate level.

Candidates will work closely with the Director of the Psychological Consultation Center - the Psychology department's community-based training clinic - as well as with department leadership.

Key

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Teach graduate-level courses to students in the Master's program in Mental and Behavioral Health Counseling (MBHC) and the APA-accredited Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology. Expectations are for teaching a total of 6 courses per year across the academic year and summer session. At least 2 of these courses must be practicum courses involving the training of clinical students. In additional, students will sign up for individual supervision.

● Supervise MBHC graduate students in clinical practice, including individual and group therapy work.

● Oversee and manage internship/externship placements for MBHC students.

● Contribute to the department's mission of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical research, teaching, and supervision.

● Mentor MBHC graduate and undergraduate students, fostering professional and academic growth.

● Engage in service to the department, college, and university through community outreach and advocacy events, committee participation, and other program development activities.

● Support administrative responsibilities in the Psychological Consultation Center.

Qualifications

Required:

1. Clinically-focused Masters or Doctorate degree (or a closely related field) at time of application.

2. Licensed or license-eligible as an LMHC or Psychologist in Rhode Island.

3. Experience in providing clinical supervision, with proficiency in empirically supported treatments (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT, and/or other third-wave therapies).

4. Evidence of teaching excellence in core courses related to clinical psychology such as Psychopathology, Interventions or Service Ethics.

5. A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, clinical practice, supervision, and service.

6. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills.

Preferred:

1. Experience in teaching and supervising both individual and group therapy theory and practice.

2. Experience in clinical training with and professional mentorship of graduate students from diverse backgrounds.
