Located in the historic village of Kingston; the main campus of the University of Rhode Island is close to the ocean and major beaches. Our 1,200-acre campus is a handsome mix of ivy-covered buildings and contemporary architecture. It is 30 miles south of Providence, and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City. In 2018, the core of the Kingston Campus was named to the National Register of Historic places.

In addition to the main campus (Kingston Campus), there are three other campuses throughout the state. The Alan Shaw Feinstein College of Education and Professional Studies and the Rhode Island Nursing Education Center are in Providence. Position Summary:

The College of Business (COB) at the University of Rhode Island is hiring for the Fred Newton Endowed Professorship in Human Resources. This position is a full-time tenure track appointment at the Assistant level preferably starting Fall 2026; new graduates and experienced assistant professors are encouraged to apply. The faculty member is expected to conduct HR-focused research, and teach HR courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

URI's College of Business is the first accredited business school in the State of Rhode Island and recognized for its leadership in business education, research, and outreach. The College of Business is the only institution in Rhode Island with AACSB accredited programs at the undergraduate, Master's, and PhD levels and a separate accreditation for its Accounting program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● The applicant will engage in research with a primary focus in Human Resources that leads to publication in targeted refereed journals, secure grant funding, and work with the labor and human resource management community in the state and region.

● The applicant is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, and/or Labor Relations with special emphasis on staffing, training and development, and compensation management and benefits.

● In addition to teaching, the applicant is expected to engage students academically and professionally.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

1. An earned PhD in Management by 2026 from an AACSB accredited Business School or a doctorate in a related field with similar accreditation.

2. Published research in the HR field with evidence of continuing research projects (e.g. published papers in high-quality journals, manuscripts under review and/or revise-and-resubmit, presentations in peer-reviewed conferences).

3. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses.

4. Demonstrated ability to engage in innovative teaching on an individual and team basis.

5. Ability to engage in service activities; e.g. at the college, university, and professional levels, including work with the state and the business communities.

6.

Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

7. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

8. Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level for Human Resource and Labor Relation course content with positive student/peer reviews.

2. Demonstrated work experience in the field of Human Resources and/or Labor Relations.
