Day to Day Paraprofessionals:

Position Summary:

This is paraprofessional work of an instructional nature in a classroom setting or with small groups or individual students. A substitute in this class is responsible for assisting a teacher in carrying out a daily educational program. Work involves the development of effective personal relationships with children of all needs. Work requires the performance of various instructional, classroom, and clerical duties according to established procedures, which can be learned on the job.

A substitute is provided with specific instructions and is under the direct supervision of a teacher or the school principal. Position Type:

• Be of good character;
  Successful candidate must have a current national BCI check. Have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma;
  Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE). Three (3) exceptions to this particular qualification: a. Those hired before January 1, 1999 b. Those with certification as a TA in another state, c. Those with an associates degree or bachelors degree AND who have completed coursework or other training consistent with the teacher assistant program standards.
  
  It is a district's decision whether coursework or other training is consistent with the teacher assistant program standards. Meet one (1) of the following requirements: a. Successfully pass the Para Pro Assessment. OR b. Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education OR c. Obtain an associates or higher degree. Citizenship, residency or work visa required

South Kingstown School Department actively seeks applications from the most capable, professional candidates. In order to be considered, you must submit a COMPLETE School Spring application. Incomplete School Spring applications will NOT be considered. If selected for hire, before being added to our substitute list, you will be required to provide the following items in person: 1. W-4 2. Federal BCI (Done through your local police department or State Attorney General's Office) (must be current).

3. I-9 (Must be filled out in person) Please bring appropriate documentation.
4. Transcript Substitute paraprofessional applicants must show proof that they meet the minimum requirements for individuals to be employed as a paraprofessional as indicated in the RI Department of Education Teacher Assistant Standards.
