Job DescriptionDay‑to‑day paraprofessionals report to the classroom teacher or principal. This role involves instructional support in classroom settings, working with small groups or individual students. Duties include assisting a teacher in carrying out daily educational programs, developing effective personal relationships with children of all needs, and performing various instructional, classroom, and clerical duties according to established procedures. The substitute works under direct supervision of a teacher or principal.

- Be of good character.
- Have a current national BCI check.
- Have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
- Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre‑Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education. Exceptions: (a) Those hired before 01/01/1999, (b) Those with certification as a TA in another state, (c) Those with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree and who have completed coursework or training consistent with teacher assistant program standards.
- Meet one of the following: (a) Successfully pass the Para Pro Assessment, (b) Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education, or (c) Obtain an associate’s or higher degree.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Assist classroom teachers in implementing daily instructional plans.
Support individual and small‑group instruction.
Maintain classroom organization and manage learning materials.
Follow school policies and procedures, including safety and discipline protocols.
