The Burrillville School Department is seeking qualified candidates for a Preschool Special Education Teacher. This position will begin in the  school year. Certifications required are Early Childhood PK-3 and Early Childhood Special Education. Please read the following job description of position general responsibilities and qualifications.

GENERAL

PURPOSE:

The Special Educator will provide resource program assistance as per the Rhode Island Regulations. The Special Educator will support the vision of the Special Education Department in providing appropriate educational services to students in the least restrictive environment to students who qualify for special education services.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops Individual Educational Programs with parents of pupils assigned in conjunction with appropriate diagnostic assessment data and the recommendations of the Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Implements instructional objectives, interprets pupil program needs, and accommodates individual learning styles as specified in Individual Educational Plans.
  • Demonstrates competencies in curriculum analysis, as well as selection and implementation of appropriate instructional methodologies to ensure concentrated emphasis, as intended to remediate diagnosed areas of deficit for students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to maintain professional standards by remaining informed regarding current special education instructional approaches and technology.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain sensitivity to variations in student abilities and learning styles to facilitate mastery of curricula objectives.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with regular education staff to organize the learning environment to optimally accommodate the special needs of participating students.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and in partnership with the general education staff within the context of an inclusionary educational environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to schedule IEP reviews as necessary and in accordance with state regulations. Maintains all necessary paperwork appropriately and in compliance with regulatory demands.
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop a schedule of teaching activities and maintenance of current records concerning students assigned.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain all compliance related records as required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding pupil status and student records unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and the ability to promote positive rapport among administrators, teachers, parents and students.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain a current inventory of instructional materials and responsibility for their whereabouts during the course of the year.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Rhode Island Regulations of the Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education Governing the Special Education of Children with Disabilities, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Demonstrates a functional knowledge of individual educational tests, their administration and interpretation, and their use in the evaluation process.
  • Demonstrates appropriate participation in the Multidisciplinary Team process.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of behavior intervention techniques and is able to apply behavior modification programs to alleviate and control individual and group behavioral issues.
