Job DescriptionResponsibilities:
• Creation of academic, functional and behavioral supports and data collection systems that promote effective instruction for students with disabilities in the school setting.
• Develop comprehensive individualized support and educational plans to promote placement in the least restrictive setting.
• Develop and implement instructional interventions, modifications and accommodations in conjunction with general education teachers.
• Implement, maintain and interpret data related to monitoring of academic and behavioral interventions and student progress.
• Provide, as needed, safe and therapeutic interventions, including the accurate completion of all required documentation and follow-up activities.
• Participate in the supervision and training of teacher assistant(s), support staff in the use of appropriate intervention strategies.
• Administer, interpret and report on diagnostic educational, functional and behavioral assessments.
• Complete case management responsibilities as identified by the district and state/federal regulations.
• Implement de-escalation, physical intervention and sensory integration strategies as needed.
• Produce necessary adaptations of materials for students in collaboration with support staff and the classroom teacher(s).
• Implement therapist-designed curriculum modifications and accommodations within the school setting in collaboration with the SLP, OT and PT.
• Implement medical and therapeutic plans as necessary (including toileting, hygiene and dressing).
• Perform the functions of the position in accordance with the RI Professional Teaching Standards
• Perform the functions of the position in accordance with the RI Professional Code of Conduct
• Perform the functions of the position in accordance with all laws, regulations, school district policies, mission of the district, school-based plans, and administrative priorities

- Appropriate special education certification by the RI Department of Education as a teacher in the grades / subject area in which the candidate is applying to serve;
Documented competency in the development and implementation of instructional programs for students with significant disabilities;
Experience in development and implementation of programs that maximize participation and independence in the school setting;
Exhibit knowledge of health, safety and emergency procedures in the school environment;
Demonstrated experience in scaffolding academic, functional and social/behavioral skills;
Demonstrated experience in intensive special education setting;
Demonstrated training and experience in de-escalation and crisis management;
Demonstrated training or experience in applied behavior analysis,data collection and data analysis;
Demonstrated experience with ABLLS and VB-MAP;
Documented competency in the implementation of specialized reading approaches and diagnostic assessment;
Professional knowledge and skills as outlined in the RI Professional Teaching Standards;
Ability to collaborate with colleagues and administration to ensure effective curriculum, instruction and assessment;
Knowledge and skills developed through ongoing professional growth activities;
Good written and oral communication skills;
