Job Description Position AnnouncementSpecial Educator
About The Greene SchoolThe Greene School (TGS) is a public charter high school serving approximately 200 students in grades 9–12 across 26 municipalities in Rhode Island. We are an EL Education (Expeditionary Learning) school with a deep commitment to environmental education, student agency, and community-connected learning. At TGS, students are known, challenged, and supported as whole people — and our crew culture ensures that every student has adults who are invested in their success.
TGS has received state approval to expand to a 6–12 configuration, creating an exciting opportunity for educators who want to help shape the next chapter of our school. We are adding to our special education team ahead of this and this role is central to that work.
The OpportunityWe are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Mathematics Teacher to join our faculty. This role is central to our academic program, delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction across our math course sequence while embracing the expeditionary, project-based approach that defines a TGS classroom. The ideal candidate is someone who believes every student can be a mathematical thinker, who builds authentic relationships with students, and who is energized by collaborative, interdisciplinary work.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging mathematics instruction across courses such as Geometry and Statistics, differentiated to meet the needs of all learners
- Integrate real-world, Expeditionary Learning approaches that connect mathematics to environmental and interdisciplinary themes
- Collaborate with co-teachers and support staff within a co-teaching model to serve students with diverse learning needs
- Use ongoing formative assessment to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Serve as a Crew Leader, building strong advisory relationships that support students' academic and personal growth
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture rooted in respect, high expectations, and shared purpose
- Participate in TGS traditions, expeditions, and community events throughout the year
- Engage in ongoing professional development, including EL Education-aligned practices
- Collaborate with colleagues through common planning time, data teams, and instructional coaching
- Communicate regularly and constructively with families about student progress
- Rhode Island certification in Secondary Mathematics (or eligibility to obtain certification)
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field
- Strong content knowledge across the secondary mathematics curriculum
- A collaborative, growth-oriented mindset and genuine commitment to student-centered learning
- Experience with EL Education or other project-based/expeditionary learning models
- Experience working within a co-teaching or inclusive classroom model
- Familiarity with environmental education or interdisciplinary curriculum design
Who We're Looking For TGS is looking for an educator who sees mathematics as a tool for curiosity and problem-solving, not just a set of procedures to memorize. You bring warmth, high expectations, and flexibility to your classroom. You're excited to be part of a small, mission-driven school where relationships matter, where staff collaborate closely across disciplines, and where you'll help shape our program as we grow into a 6–12 school.
