Social Studies Teacher (Long Term Substitute) - Burrillville Middle School
The Burrillville School Department is seeking qualified candidates for a Social Studies Long Term Substitute Teacher position at Burrillville Middle School. This position will begin on August 24, 2026 and doesn't have an exact end date at this time. The Long Term Substitute Teacher (LTS) assumes the roles and responsibilities of an absent teacher for an extended period of at least 30 consecutive days.
The LTS must be certified in the grade level/s and/or content covered. The LTS implements the Burrillville School Department curriculum for the classes/courses covered; supports a flexible and conducive learning environment; monitors student achievement, personal growth, and development of social skills as appropriate to age and grade level; conforms with all applicable regulations and school department policies; and maintains positive relationships with parents and colleagues.
General Responsibilities:
- Follows district curriculum with integrity, adhering to pacing and content guidelines.
- Utilizes a range of instructional practices to meet students' individual needs.
- Evaluates students' academic growth, maintains appropriate data/records, and prepares progress reports and report cards.
- Continuously moves students toward proficiency by providing them with multiple opportunities to learn and demonstrate content knowledge.
- Effectively communicates with families in multiple ways (conferences, phone calls, emails, messaging systems) to discuss students' progress.
- Maintains professional competence through professional learning during common planning times and on district professional days.
- Participates in all curriculum-related professional learning.
- Administers assessments in accordance with district and state guidelines.
- Participates on faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education
- Rhode Island teaching certificate OR teaching certificate from a state with reciprocity OR demonstrable ability to be emergency certified in the appropriate content area/s.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of teaching experience in the relevant content area/grade level
