Special Educator

The Greene School (TGS) is a public charter high school serving approximately 200 students in grades 9–12 across 26 municipalities in Rhode Island. We are an EL Education (Expeditionary Learning) school with a deep commitment to environmental education, student agency, and community-connected learning. TGS has received state approval to expand to a 6–12 configuration, creating an exciting opportunity for educators who want to help shape the next chapter of our school. We are adding to our special education team ahead of this and this role is central to that work.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Special Educator to join our faculty. This role is central to our academic program, delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction across our special education courses while embracing the expeditionary, project-based approach that defines a TGS classroom. The ideal candidate is someone who believes every student can be a successful learner, who builds authentic relationships with students, and who is energized by collaborative, interdisciplinary work.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

Plan and deliver engaging special education instruction across courses, differentiated to meet the needs of all learners

Integrate real-world, Expeditionary Learning approaches that connect special education to environmental and interdisciplinary themes

Collaborate with co-teachers and support staff within a co-teaching model to serve students with diverse learning needs

Use ongoing formative assessment to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly

School Culture & Crew

Serve as a Crew Leader, building strong advisory relationships that support students' academic and personal growth

Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture rooted in respect, high expectations, and shared purpose

Participate in TGS traditions, expeditions, and community events throughout the year

Professional Practice

Engage in ongoing professional development, including EL Education-aligned practices

Collaborate with colleagues through common planning time, data teams, and instructional coaching

Communicate regularly and constructively with families about student progress

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Special Education

Valid Rhode Island Teaching Certification as a Special Educator in the area of the position posted

Knowledge of IDEA and Rhode Island state special education regulations

Demonstrated ability to write effective, data-driven IEPs

Knowledge of the school-to-career transition process in Rhode Island

Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Ability to work with outside agency partners, including ORS and BHDDH
