Eaton's IS AER FED division is currently seeking a Machinist - 1st Shift to join our team in Rumford, RI!
The core hours are 7 am - 3 pm, Monday - Friday.
The hourly rate for this position is $35.28 per hour.

The Rumford, RI facility is a unionized location. There is a 60 day probationary period, after which you will be considered a union member and begin paying union dues.
What you'll do:
The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manual machining equipment to produce precision components that meet exacting quality standards. This role performs machine setups, in-process inspections, tooling and fixture modifications, heat treatment operations, and a variety of machining processes while supporting continuous improvement initiatives, safety compliance, and production efficiency.
In this role, you will:
- Set up and operate the Okuma CNC lathes other equipment within the cell.
- Set up and operate both conventional and programmable CMM's.
- Set up and operate ovens and freezer to heat treat and stabilize components.
- Mark components using the following methods; dot peen, ink stamp, electro-etch, vibro-peen, and laser.
- Use chucks, fixtures, parallels, and blocks to obtain proper alignment and maintain relationships when setting up.
- Select speeds and feeds according to type of material and finish requirements.
- Maintain close tolerances.
- Locate fixtures and work pieces in relationship to established reference surfaces and perform in place final machining of fixtures.
- Work from blueprints, methods sheets, set up sheets, and verbal instructions to produce parts with tolerances as close as .0001". Perform necessary bench work such as filing, fitting, deburring, etc.
- Setup and/or use Micrometers, Verniers, Comparators, Monochromatic Light, Sunnen Gauges, Dial Indicators, Protractor, Air Gages, Bore Gages, and any other measurement instruments required for part inspection. Use Jo Blocks to establish size and set gages.
- Run one or more machines of various types for continuous production flow within department.
- Be part of the continuous improvement team with goals to improve quality, increase productivity, lower cost and improve service; including working with Engineers to develop and recommend new processes and process improvements.
- Complete measurement and verification of own work after set-up and first piece is checked by the Group Leader or Supervisor.
- Move parts as required to ensure continuous production flow. Report faulty operation, defective material and unusual conditions to Supervisors.
- Maintain work area, tools, and equipment in clean orderly condition in accordance with 5S, safety, and department standard practices.
- Maintain equipment and tools per daily check lists and standard practices.
- Observe prescribed safety precautions, company rules, and regulations.
- Plan and perform a range of manual operations (on appropriate equipment) such as but not limited to; drilling, turning, milling, grinding, reaming, tapping, spot facing, threading, broaching. sanding, sawing, filing, burring, pinning, polishing, cleaning, and modifying component parts. Make jaws, tooling, and fixtures as directed.
- Replace dull or broken tools.
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a Machinist or Tool & Die program from an accredited institution OR equivalent working experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in CNC Turning or Milling.
