The Launch Driver operates a USCG inspected launch as a lifeline for customers and guests between the boat yard dock to customer boats in mooring field. Responsibilities include watchkeeping for boats in mooring field, on dock and dinghy dock and taking appropriate action to safeguard any boats and passengers before problems occur. Professionalism while monitoring and communicating over marine VHF is essential duty, as is a helpful, polite, service oriented attitude with willingness to lend a hand.
The idyllic location of Safe Harbor Jamestown Boat Yard makes for a beautiful yet dynamically challenging location to operate a boat. Launch driver should be comfortable operating 23 ft powerboat and catching lines for boats approaching and departing dock. Peripheral responsibilities include general maintenance of waterfront and customer facing facilities and communicating any issues to management. This is a seasonal position from mid May through mid October.
- Captain a 17 passenger launch providing shuttle service between boatyard dock and boats in mooring field
- Ensure passenger safety and provide customer service
- Line handling for boats landing and departing the dock
- Check lines for boats and dinghies secured to dock
- Maintain waterfront and facilities
- Manage mooring assignments under the guidance of office manager
- Available to work overtime when required
- Other duties as assigned by manager
- Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
- Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately
Physical Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-5 years marina experience preferred
- Prior management experience a plus
- USCG Captains License Required
- Strong boat handling skills in various weather conditions
- Ability to work safely around water
- Must be able to swim
- Must have a valid drivers' license
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Any skills considered standard that Maritime Operations personnel should possess
