Part-time Groundskeeper / Custodian

Location: West Greenwich, Rhode Island

Starting Date: Immediately

Hours: 20 hours per week

Reports to: Director of Maintenance

Classification: Grade 1 (Groundskeeper/Custodian)

This position performs semi‑skilled work caring and maintaining grounds and athletic fields within the district. The work is independently carried out with instructions from the Director of Maintenance and building principals.

• Maintain grounds and athletic/recreational fields: seeding, mowing, trimming, rolling, watering, spiking, raking, etc.
• Fertilize and treat fields and lawn areas as required.
• Perform routine maintenance (weeding, cleaning, painting) of walkways and parking areas.
• Conduct regular inspections to determine needed maintenance.
• Keep grounds free of litter, debris, and other objects.
• Empty trash receptacles.
• Plow, shovel snow, and sand district driveways, walkways, and entryways.
• Maintain prescribed inventory levels of winter sand district‑wide.
• Perform tree and shrub removal in consultation with the Director of Maintenance.
• Inspect and maintain outdoor equipment daily.
• Deliver district lunches and pick up/deliver mail as required.
• Perform custodial duties when weather conditions or staffing require it.
• Attend training sessions as required by the district.
• Perform other job‑related duties as required.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally more than 50 pounds.
• Work requires standing for long periods and stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing.
• Must be able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance in adverse weather.
• Wearing of protective equipment per OSHA regulations is required.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience in grounds maintenance and custodial work.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Pass national and state criminal background checks within one week prior to start.
