Job Description

Summary:

The search will remain open until the position has been filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by May 19, 2026. Applications received after May 19, 2026 may be reviewed depending on search progress and needs but are not guaranteed full consideration.

Position Summary:

Perform research and extension of an advanced and often independent nature for Rhode Island Sea Grant's (RISG) Extension Team with a focus on coastal resilience. Provide support to RI Sea Grant's blue economy, energy, and fisheries / aquaculture portfolios.

Duties and Responsibilities - KEY

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a principal investigator to plan, coordinate and facilitate trainings, workshops, study tours, and meetings (in-person and virtual) at local and regional scales on issues related to coastal resilience, fisheries, aquaculture, blue economy or energy issues. Deliver trainings, workshops, etc. to expert stakeholders as well as the general public. Lead the implementation and dissemination of research activities related to ocean and coastal issues, with an emphasis on community science and the integration of community research into scientific research, management, and policy initiatives.

Direct the creation of communication materials around marine science research and coastal management related information for project stakeholders. Develop proposals, technical reports, and professional articles. Instruct and supervise graduate students and others. Participate in selected RISG Extension activities to gain familiarity with additional program areas, including Energy, Aquaculture, and Fisheries. OTHER

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work evenings and weekends as necessary. Perform additional duties as required. LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT: MS Suite, ArcGIS. Adobe, Canva. Must provide own transportation.

Required Qualifications
- REQUIRED:

1. Master's degree in environmental science and management, marine affairs, natural resource policy or related field.
2. Minimum of three years of relevant professional engagement with stakeholders and the public in coastal policy, management, and science communication about coastal resilience, aquaculture, blue economy or energy issues.
3. Demonstrated experience in developing science communication materials (i.e. web sites, story maps, social media posts, or flyers on marine or environmental topics). 4. Demonstrated experience implementing relevant research, specifically community science.
5. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
8. Willingness to travel.
9. Willingness to work evenings and weekends. 10. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations. 11. Must provide own transportation.

Preferred Qualifications - PREFERRED:
1. Certification in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or Science Writing.
2. Experience with basic graphic design (E.g., Canva) and email marketing platforms.
3. Demonstrated ability to be a team player.
4. Experience working in coastal resilience issues.
5. Spanish proficiency.
