Emergency Communications Nurse
CONFIRE, JPA is recruiting for Emergency Communications Nurses who will perform pre‑hospital telephonic nursing duties and use an advanced clinical decision support system to triage lower‑acuity 9‑1‑1 calls received by the communications center, subsequently referring patients to the Nurse Triage Center.
Responsibilities- Utilize a computerized clinical decision support system to conduct secondary telephonic medical triage, perform nursing assessments, formulate treatment plans, and assist patients in arranging appropriate care according to protocols approved by the Agency's Medical Director.
- Interact with callers to quickly and accurately interpret symptoms, redirect them to appropriate care levels, or provide self‑management education.
- Instructionally guide patients on health and treatment plans, appropriate care resources, prevention, and follow‑up.
- Apply clinical judgment from acute care experience to communicate compassionately with callers outside the 9‑1‑1 system.
- Coordinate patient transportation with agencies and assist with medical appointments as needed.
- Participate in mandatory training to support quality improvement for the Emergency Communications Nurse Program.
A successful background check and medical exam are required prior to assignment.
AvailabilityApplicants must be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays. Shift differentials are provided.
LocationMust be willing to work at any CONFIRE location within San Bernardino County.
License and CertificationsA valid RN license, BLS and ACLS certifications at the time of hire, maintained throughout employment. ECNS and EMD certifications must be completed during orientation and maintained thereafter.
TravelTravel within and outside the County may be required. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance are required.

Candidate Qualifications- Current RN license issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing in good standing.
- Two years of full‑time pre‑hospital or emergency medical experience, with at least one year as an RN. Home healthcare experience is not considered.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- RN and Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) experience and knowledge of the pre‑hospital 9‑1‑1 system in San Bernardino County are highly desired.
