Plans, directs, and oversees the Quality Control Program to ensure the consistent production of materials that meet or exceed company, customer, ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and other applicable specifications. Provides leadership to quality personnel while partnering with operations and sales to promote continuous improvement, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities- Implement, and continuously improve the Quality Control Program to ensure compliance with company, customer, ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and other applicable specifications.
- Develop and analyze statistical data, process capability, and product specifications to establish quality standards, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide leadership, direction, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and professional development for Quality Control personnel, including technicians and supervisors, while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate quality objectives with operations and sales to maximize product consistency, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
- Direct inspection, sampling, and testing activities to ensure continuous compliance with internal testing frequency requirements and any external requirements.
- Verify laboratory equipment is calibrated, maintained, and operating properly while ensuring calibration records and documentation remain current.
- Ensure laboratories maintain required certifications, accreditations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and testing documentation.
- Review laboratory data, investigate out-of-specification results, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate customer quality concerns and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues while maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Support sales in providing documentation regarding material quality to customers and any outside agencies.
- Develop and deliver training programs related to quality control, testing procedures, specifications, and quality management systems.
- Conduct routine audits of laboratories, production facilities, testing procedures, and quality documentation to verify compliance.
- Support new product development, material qualifications, and aggregate source approvals as required.
- Assist operations during production issues by providing technical guidance and recommending process improvements to improve product quality and reduce variability.
- Prepare, review, and present quality reports, performance metrics, and recommendations to management.
- Provide technical support and plant coverage for Quality Control technicians and supervisors as operational needs require.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, environmental requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Manage quality-related budgets, laboratory supplies, testing equipment, and outside laboratory services as assigned.
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and evaluate Quality Control personnel while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant industry experience will be considered.
- Minimum 4–10 years of aggregate, ready-mix, or construction materials quality control experience.
- Minimum 2–4 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Thorough knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and industry testing standards.
