Job Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic performs all types of mechanical jobs throughout the assigned area. Maintains plant equipment and facilities to meet operating requirements and objectives, during and outside of regular operation schedules and maintenance.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance mechanic assignments on plant equipment and facilities
  • Collect data for preventative and predictive plant maintenance projects
  • Perform millwright assignments such as bearing replacement, alignment of equipment, and inspection and repair of power transmission according to plant standards
  • Perform welding and cutting assignments such as fabrication of plant equipment and structures and repair of worn process equipment according to plant standards
  • Inspect lubrication for mechanical equipment, record data for running equipment, take lab samples as required, drain oil and change oil and filters on all equipment oil reservoirs
  • Perform pipefitter assignments to install, maintain and inspect existing and future piping structures on all types of piping systems
  • Operate mobile equipment to assist with completing maintenance assigned duties
  • Perform plumbing inspection and repair on plant equipment and facilities
  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior mechanical experience/welding experience, training or certification required
  • Prior plant maintenance mechanic experience a plus
  • Bi-lingual (a plus)
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions and address problems from standardized situations
  • Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions and conversions of units in both metric and decimal systems
  • Ability to read and understand English to read technical information in manuals, reports, and mechanical work-related instructions, including safety issues
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other mechanics, maintenance personnel, co-workers and outside contractors
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge to detect potential safety hazards and equipment breakdowns and respond accordingly
  • Ability to identify and select the appropriate material and equipment to perform the correct mechanical work and repairs
  • High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform work safely and productively
Working Conditions
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, and outdoor work
  • Must wear protective equipment at the location
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform all job functions including walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, turning, climbing to a significant degree, and operating controls
  • Heavy work: exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects
  • Regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with employees and visitors and to operate around heavy equipment
  • May include other duties as described above
