Ready Mix Plant Mechanic/Electrician

Starting at $34/hour

The Ready Mix Plant Mechanic/Electrician is responsible for the mechanical and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fixed batch plant assets — batching systems, cement and fly ash silos, aggregate bins, conveyors, dust collection, water/admixture metering, and associated structural and electrical infrastructure. This role keeps the plant itself running at full production capacity by diagnosing and correcting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures, and by performing preventive maintenance that minimizes unplanned downtime.

This is a fixed-asset role; it does not include mixer truck or fleet vehicle repair. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable inside a control panel, on a ladder, or turning a wrench on stationary equipment, and treats safety and uptime as the two things that matter most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain fixed batch plant equipment: batchers, mixers, conveyors, aggregate bins, cement/fly ash silos, and dust collection systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair plant electrical systems, including motor starters, VFDs, PLCs, control panels, sensors, and load cell/scale systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on all stationary plant assets per PM schedules
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems on batch plant equipment (gates, slide gates, actuators, air compressors, and cylinders)
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults on batch controls, water/admixture metering systems, silo level indicators, and bin vibrators
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs on chutes, hoppers, walkways, ladders, and structural components as needed
  • Respond to plant breakdowns, prioritizing safety and minimizing production downtime
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts usage in the CMMS for all fixed assets
  • Order parts and maintain adequate stock of common wear items and consumables for plant equipment
  • Inspect and maintain silo dust collectors, baghouses, and pressure relief systems per compliance requirements
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, fall protection, and all site safety procedures without exception
  • Train and mentor junior mechanics on plant mechanical and electrical troubleshooting as needed
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend plant breakdowns

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as an industrial mechanic, industrial electrician, or combination mechanic/electrician maintaining fixed/stationary plant equipment (ready mix, aggregate, concrete, or similar heavy industrial setting)
  • Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems: motor controls, VFDs, PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred), 480V 3-phase power
  • Ability to troubleshoot Jonel batching system controls and associated panel wiring, or willingness to be trained on our platform
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems used on batch plant equipment
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Own a basic set of hand tools; company provides specialty and heavy tools
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces per training and PPE requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to work independently on breakdowns with limited supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman electrician license or equivalent industrial electrical training
  • Experience with Jonel batching systems and controls (or comparable batch control platforms)
  • Welding/fabrication experience (MIG/stick)
  • Experience maintaining silos, baghouses, or dust collection systems
  • Prior experience in a concrete, pipe, aggregate, or heavy manufacturing environment

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs with assistance
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, bending, climbing, and working in tight or elevated spaces (silo tops, catwalks, conveyor structures)
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, and inclement weather typical of a plant/yard environment
