Overview We are seeking a Design Technician to support electric distribution projects for residential and commercial customers. This role involves a mix of office-based design work and field assessments, using GIS/drafting tools to develop layouts for electrical infrastructure.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who enjoy a combination of technical design, project coordination, and real-world field interaction. No specific degree is required training will be provided, and candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
- Design and manage electric distribution projects for new and existing customers
- Create and update sketches, working drawings, and contract documents using GIS tools or drafting techniques
- Develop 2D and 3D models based on engineering and project requirements
- Interpret customer requirements, engineering data, and supplier specifications
- Perform field assessments at residential, commercial, and construction sites (~30% field work)
- Support system design activities such as transformer sizing, underground cable routing, and pole placement
- Prepare engineering documentation, including bills of materials, schedules, and design packages
- Assist with project tracking, scheduling, and coordination with engineering and technical teams
- Maintain accurate records and support formal drawing transmittals and construction updates
- Collaborate with internal teams in a hybrid office/field environment
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good organizational and project coordination abilities
- Basic understanding of electrical concepts or willingness to learn
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or blueprints
- Willingness to work both in-office and in the field
- Valid driver s license and ability to travel locally using a personal vehicle
- Experience with GIS software, drafting tools, or AutoCAD
- Background in electrical, utility, construction, or related industries
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, bills of materials, and documentation processes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
