Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Geologist to join their exploration team based in Richards Bay . This position is integral to identifying and evaluating new hydrocarbon prospects, contributing vital geological insights to the company's upstream strategy. You will work with advanced exploration technologies and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of geoscientists and engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of regional geology and proven experience in prospect generation within the oil and gas exploration sector .
Key Responsibilities- Analyze geological and geophysical data (seismic, well logs, core data) to identify and delineate potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
- Develop geological models and maps to define play concepts and prospect inventory.
- Plan and supervise geological fieldwork, including core acquisition and sedimentological studies.
- Collaborate closely with geophysicists to interpret seismic data and perform structural and strati graphic analysis.
- Assess geological risks and uncertainties associated with exploration prospects.
- Prepare geological reports, presentations, and recommendations for exploration project progression.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in exploration geology , with a focus on clastic or carbonate environments.
- Proficiency in geological software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite) for seismic interpretation and mapping.
- Strong understanding of depositional environments, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to integrate diverse geological datasets.
- Experience in the South African geological context is advantageous.
