Senior Telecommunications Field Technician

Our client, a prominent telecommunications service provider in the Kwa Zulu-Natal region , is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Telecommunications Field Technician to join their operations in Richards Bay . This hands‑on role is crucial for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure at customer sites and remote locations. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of service delivery and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a thorough understanding of various telecommunications systems, including fibre optics, wireless technologies, and copper-based networks within the telecoms industry . Safety and quality are paramount in this role.

• Install, configure, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including routers, switches, modems, and fibre optic termination points.
• Perform routine maintenance and diagnostic checks on network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
• Troubleshoot and repair faults in telecommunications systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Respond to service calls and emergency repair requests promptly and efficiently.
• Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and manuals to guide installation and repair activities.
• Ensure all work is completed safely, in accordance with company standards and industry best practices.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including service reports and inventory of parts used.
• Provide basic technical support and training to end-users when necessary.
• Adhere to strict quality control procedures and customer service standards.
• Assist in the training and mentoring of junior field technicians.
• Work effectively as part of a team or independently on assigned tasks.

• Relevant technical qualification or certification in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Telecommunications Field Technician or similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with fibre optic splicing, termination, and testing (OTDR, power meters).
• Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting DSL, ADSL, VDSL, and wireless communication systems.
• Knowledge of IP networking, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, and Wi‑Fi standards.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical schematics and diagrams.
• Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
• Good physical condition with the ability to work at heights and in various environmental conditions.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is essential.
• Strong customer service orientation and effective communication skills.
• Experience in the telecoms industry is required.
• Familiarity with local safety regulations and practices in Kwa Zulu-Natal.
