Accountant, Financial Reporting, Tax Accountant

Pay rate: $35.00/hr on W2 or $70k conversion salary

Duration: 6+ months contract to hire

This position prepares statutory financial reports and quarterly and annual statements for external audiences, handles state reporting for insurance companies, and manages journal entries, account reconciliations, and data compilation across departments. Responsibilities also include maintaining state assessment payments and databases, processing Plan‑to‑Plan payments, preparing check requests, intercompany settlements, and supporting special projects.

• Pay monthly, quarterly, and annual state assessment payments.
• Maintain a state reporting database that tracks assessment details.
• Maintain Plan‑to‑Plan (P2P) payment processes.
• Prepare check requests for various providers.
• Prepare journal entries to record P2P activities.
• Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly intercompany settlements.
• Prepare statutory quarterly and annual statements.
• Perform special projects as needed.

• College degree in business with accounting coursework or 4 years of accounting experience.
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
• Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.
• Experience with financial systems.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Clear, concise communication with good grammar and appropriate word choice.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Intermediate level Excel expertise.
• Experience with financial reporting systems such as Oracle, FIS (Sun Gard), and Workiva.
