The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the company's financial reporting, month-end close, account reconciliations, general ledger management, and compliance activities. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring timely reporting across multiple business functions.

Working in a fast-paced security surveillance technology company, the Senior Accountant partners closely with Finance, Operations, Sales, Inventory, Service, and Leadership to improve financial processes, support business growth, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post journal entries for month-end and year-end close.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
  • Assist in producing timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Analyze financial results and provide meaningful explanations of trends and variances.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
  • Support preparation of management reports and financial dashboards.
Revenue & Cost Accounting
  • Review revenue recognition for equipment sales, rental contracts, monitoring services, installation, and service revenue.
  • Assist with deferred revenue accounting and recurring revenue reconciliations.
  • Analyze cost of goods sold, inventory movements, and gross margin performance.
  • Partner with Operations to improve inventory accounting accuracy.
Fixed Assets & Inventory
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts and reconciliation activities.
  • Reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger.
  • Monitor inventory reserves and obsolescence.
Accounts Support
  • Review complex Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions.
  • Assist with cash management and bank reconciliations.
  • Monitor customer collections and bad debt reserves.
  • Support payroll accounting and related reconciliations.
Compliance & Audit
  • Assist with annual financial statement audits.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Support sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Assist in ERP optimization and automation initiatives.
  • Develop standardized procedures for recurring accounting activities.
  • Participate in cross-functional process improvement projects.
Business Partnership
  • Provide financial support to department leaders.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis for leadership.
  • Mentor junior accounting staff as assigned.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA certification preferred.
Experience
  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing, technology, rental equipment, or service-based organizations preferred.
  • Experience with multi-location operations is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Advanced knowledge of general ledger accounting.
  • Experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments.
