Position SummaryAs a Lien Specialist, you will manage the lien process, ensure compliance with legal requirements, and resolve lien‑related disputes. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and legal professionals to maintain accurate records and facilitate efficient settlement resolution.
Key Responsibilities- Review and analyze legal documents, medical bills, and records to identify lien obligations and requirements.
- Examine case files and settlement documents for existing liens or subrogation.
- Determine any outstanding liens, subrogation, or bankruptcy filings affecting the settlement.
- Verify notifications to Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and other relevant entities and obtain appropriate responses.
- Dispute or negotiate reductions for liens or subrogation as instructed by attorneys.
- Document lien status in the case management system accurately and keep all information up to date.
- Conduct secondary verification for specific liens (e.g., hospital liens) before final payout.
- Communicate effectively with attorneys, departments, vendors, and clients regarding lien‑related inquiries.
- Maintain organized records of lien documentation for reference and audit purposes.
- Stay informed about changes in lien laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, legal studies, or a related field (preferred).
- Prior experience as a legal closing specialist, subrogation analyst, settlements coordinator, lien processor, or similar role (preferred).
- Strong understanding of lien and subrogation laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software applications.
- Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills with effective task prioritization.
- Office environment with normal business hours.
- Stationary position for up to 50% of the time; occasionally move around office, access file cabinets, meeting rooms, and machinery.
- Occasional stair use to access other floors, cafeteria, and parking area.
- Operates a computer and other office equipment such as copy machines/printers regularly.
- Occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).
- Effective communication with colleagues and clients in various settings.
- Ability to observe and assess details up close.
