Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Risk Control professional to support underwriting and risk assessment across a variety of complex commercial accounts. This role reports to the Risk Control Field Director or Managing Risk Control Consultant and involves both field work and advisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide the Underwriter with account knowledge related to hazards, controls, and management.
  • Evaluate how a company identifies and manages its inherent risk factors.
  • Differentiate assets from other accounts in similar classes of business.
  • Maintain a consistent field presence, spending approximately 20%–50% of the time onsite with customers.
  • Travel to customers, including long‑distance, overnight or multi‑night trips as business demands.
  • Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claim, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers to service customers as a unified team.
  • Complete all lines risk assessment evaluations for diverse high‑complexity businesses.
  • Write detailed reports that communicate risk assessment and recommendations.
  • Discover and evaluate customer needs via loss analysis and readiness to provide Risk Control products and services.
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures and influence customers to make improvements.
  • Provide solutions to assist the customer in risk mitigation using our resources.
  • Stay current with technical subject matters, regulatory environment, and emerging issues.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in specialty areas such as Fleet, Sprinkler Contractor, Inland Marine, Industrial Hygiene, Human Factors & Ergonomics.
  • Create a valued customer experience in each assessment and service encounter.
  • Take on higher‑level project work impacting the RC organization or Travelers enterprise while maintaining core responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, basic sciences, or related technical fields.
  • Advanced level knowledge of the insurance industry and business acumen.
  • Relevant certifications such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS.
  • Seven years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or related field, e.g., occupational/environmental health and safety, science, engineering, construction, manufacturing, or relevant military experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must have or be able to attain appropriate state‑specific certification.
  • Technical aptitude, detail oriented, and superior communication skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility and rapport quickly.
  • Experience in a collaborative environment, critical thinking, influencing, negotiating change, and coaching.

Annual base salary range: $ – $. Target openings:
