Job Summary

The Director of the Health Professions Advising Center (HPAC), under the direction of the Associate Dean of the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE), leads a team that provides advice and guidance to students and alumni who seek to enter the health professions and represents HPAC and UT Dallas to internal and external stakeholders. The Director supervises 5 professional staff members, chairs the Health Professions Evaluation Committee, establishes and maintains contacts with professional health schools including but not limited to medical, dental, and veterinary schools, serves on various university committees, oversees the HPAC budget, provides professional HPAC presentations, advises current students and alumni, and various other duties as needed in support of HPAC's work.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related progressive experience.

Education and Experience

* Master's degree in social or natural sciences or higher education.

* 5 years' experience in health professions advising in the State of Texas.

* Proven ability to collaborate professionally and responsively with a wide range of campus stakeholders and external visitors from varied backgrounds.

* Demonstrated ability to work cordially and professionally with staff and faculty with preference to prior supervisory experience.

* Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

* Strong computer skills in electronic file management, word processing, database management, and spreadsheets and experience with student information systems.

* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and present information clearly in large settings.

* Knowledge of UT Dallas culture

* Established relationships with admissions staff at Texas health professions schools and universities

* Ability to manage partnerships with various entities in the State of Texas including the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) and the Texas Emergency Medicine Research Associates Program (TEMRAP) as well as a post-baccalaureate Certificate in Biomedical Sciences.

* Ability to lead the HPAC effort to interface and maintain contact with leaders in the admissions departments of the respective universities and schools

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Supervise a current staff of 5 professionals who advise current students and alumni regarding the different health professions, schools, and their respective admissions standards. Team also manages partnerships with various entities in the State of Texas including the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) and the Texas Emergency Medicine Research Associates Program (TEMRAP) as well as a post-baccalaureate Certificate in Biomedical Sciences.

* Chairs the Health Professions Evaluation Committee which collectively evaluates potential student application strength for the coming admission cycle and advises HPAC regarding the support and evaluation letter HPAC submits as part of the admission packet to TMDSAS and other application systems for each student discussed.

* As the understanding of the various needs and requirements of the different health professions universities and schools is vital, the Director leads the HPAC effort to interface and maintain contact with leaders in the admissions departments of the respective universities and schools. This may include relevant conference attendance, related association membership and leadership, as well as individual school and university site visits.

* Serves as a member of the Non-academic Withdraw Committee and the Advising Directors Committee. The Director may also serve on other university committees as needed.

* Manages HPAC to ensure funds are available to pay the mock interviewers, fund advisor professional development, and various other expenses.

* Leads HPAC presentations to the community including freshman orientation and other on campus activities as needed.

* Provides support for the advisement of students and alumni for the advisors as well as directly advising students and alumni as needed.
