As a Senior Estimator, you are a pivotal figure in the construction industry, responsible for overseeing and managing the estimation process to ensure accurate and competitive cost assessments for construction projects. Your extensive experience and expertise guide bid strategies, facilitate informed decision-making, and contribute to the success and profitability of your organization.
Supervisory responsibilities:
this position may have up to 5 direct reports.
- Project Assessment:
Thoroughly evaluate project specifications, plans, and requirements to understand project scope and objectives. - Material Takeoffs:
Conduct detailed material takeoffs to quantify required materials and resources for each project component. - Cost Estimation:
Prepare precise cost estimates using advanced estimating software and methodologies, including labor, materials, equipment, and contractor costs. - Cost Analysis:
Analyze direct and indirect costs, overhead, and profit margins to determine a competitive yet profitable bid price. - Competitive Analysis:
Research competitors' bids and pricing strategies to develop competitive proposals. - Value Engineering:
Collaborate with project teams to explore cost-saving options without compromising project quality. - Estimate Review:
Work with estimating teams to review and refine estimates for accuracy and compliance with company standards. - Bid Strategy:
Develop and execute bid strategies considering project complexity, market conditions, and client expectations. - Bid Preparation:
Lead the creation of thorough bid packages, ensuring compliance with submission requirements, deadlines, and contractual obligations. - Client Interaction:
Engage with clients and project stakeholders to clarify specifications, answer inquiries, and build positive relationships. - Vendor and Contractor Relations:
Solicit quotes, assess proposals, and negotiate pricing to secure competitive rates and favorable terms. - Vendor and Contractor Coordination:
Communicate with vendors and contractors to solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids. - Documentation Management:
Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, and communications for reference and analysis. - Reporting:
Prepare and present estimates and proposals, explaining cost breakdowns and assumptions to internal teams and clients. - Mentorship & Training:
Provide mentorship and guidance for junior estimators, including training and professional development. - Other duties as assigned. Attendance at work during normal business hours.
- Construction Processes:
Understanding of project life cycles, methodologies, and practices. - Construction Methods and Materials:
Knowledge of techniques, materials, and costs. - Construction Plans and Specifications:
Ability to interpret architectural and engineering plans and specs. - Cost Estimation Principles:
Expertise in estimation methodologies, including parametric estimating, historical data analysis, and value analysis. - Project Management:
Understanding of project management principles to assess requirements and resources. - Building Codes and Regulations:
Familiarity with local codes, permit requirements, and impact on costs. - Value Engineering:
Proficiency in identifying cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality. - Mathematics and Statistics:
Strong math and statistical skills for cost calculations and risk analysis. - Estimating Software:
