Overview

Raytheon (RTX) seeks a Senior Principal Engineer in Modeling and Simulation to join the Mission Applied Science & Technology (MAST) directorate. This role involves developing Python-based simulation applications and other data‑analytic solutions for complex real‑world systems.

Work Location

Primarily onsite in Sterling, VA;
Richardson, TX; or McKinney, TX. May require travel to other U.S. Raytheon sites.

Responsibilities
  • Interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, end users, and subject matter experts to define production model requirements, validate implemented models, and conduct demonstrations.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to define, design, and implement new production model configurations and software features for a Python‑based simulation application.
  • Employ data analytic methods (data collection and processing, statistical analysis, distribution fitting, etc.) to maintain production model input parameters.
  • Conduct verification, validation, and testing of new and revised production model configurations and software features.
  • Deliver presentations and demonstrations to leaders and stakeholders across multiple levels of the organization, functional disciplines, and business units.
  • Participate in code reviews and enforce adherence to coding standards and best practices.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in a STEM field (Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
  • Experience collaborating with customers to define requirements and measures of success.
  • Experience with simulation modeling and analysis processes for complex real‑world systems: problem definition, data processing, statistics, figures of merit, model design and translation, verification and validation, visualizations, etc.
  • Proficiency with multiple Python libraries (Num Py, Pandas, Sim Py, Panel, Bokeh, Pydot, PyQt, Plotly Dash, Holo Viz, Graphviz, etc.) and an object‑oriented programming environment.
  • Experience working through terminal interfaces (Bash, Power Shell, iPython, etc.).
  • Secure U.S. government‑issued security clearance (TS/SCI with Polygraph) – existing, active required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Experience with statistics and statistical modeling (logistic regression, Bayesian models, etc.) and/or data distribution fitting (normal, lognormal, Weibull, etc.).
  • Experience implementing discrete event simulation.
  • Technical leadership/mentorship experience.
  • Experience with version control tools (Bitbucket, Git Hub, Git Lab, Azure Dev Ops, etc.).
  • Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time zones.
  • Scrum Master and/or Product Owner certification.

Salary

USD 132,400 – 251,600 (estimates for all experience levels).

Clearance Information

Position requires an existing TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance. DCSA CAS handles the clearance process.
