The Transport Engineer is responsible for the timely creation of individual Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) to initiate US domestic network transport builds across both ULH and OTN Mesh networks. This role involves engineering and managing network projects, including the removal of obsolete equipment and ensuring builds are completed based on market-level plans, customer capacity requirements, and internal transport needs.
Key Responsibilities- Create individual Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) for US domestic network transport builds.
- Engineer and manage the removal of obsolete equipment from the ULH network.
- Engineer and initiate network projects under the Zero-Fill and Decom programs.
- Identify dependencies such as space, power, fiber, and diversity and assess their impact on planned projects.
- Identify and work with appropriate stakeholders to resolve issues and eliminate performance roadblocks.
- Participate in regular team meetings and conference calls related to assigned projects.
- Experience in the telecommunications industry.
- Technical knowledge of long-distance, ultra-long-haul (ULH), and OTN mesh networks.
- Equipment knowledge specific to SONET/SDH, ULH, OTN mesh, and WDM transport.
- Vendor-specific knowledge including Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu, and varied long-haul networks.
- Experience with Infinera equipment.
- System knowledge including BGW, CoFEE (Canvas), Nautilus, ICON, CCP, and Venue.
- Experience managing complex processes and driving results.
- Experience with windows-based programs and corporate database systems.
- Strong understanding of engineering specifications and drawings.
- Knowledge and experience with both equipment inventory and design.
- Strong working knowledge of legacy network operating systems.
- Ability to assess, identify, and mitigate risks that could impact a project.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Capability to manage assignments and competing priorities to meet important deadlines.
