Position: Principal, Electrical Engineer (Onsite)

Job Overview

Collins Aerospace, a division of RTX, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE) organization and support the Nuclear Effects Survivability Team. The role involves driving nuclear radiation characterization testing of electronics used in radio and display systems to ensure survivability in environments such as Total Ionizing Dose (TID), Neutron Displacement Damage (NDD), Gamma Dose Rate (DR), and Single Event Effects (SEE).

The position requires a U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Top Secret DoD security clearance.

Location

Richardson, Texas – Onsite. Domestic travel up to 25% (foreign travel possible).

Responsibilities
  • Design, document, test, and troubleshoot electrical hardware.
  • Evaluate radiation response of semiconductor devices including MOSFETs, DC/DC converters, FPGAs, and DDR memory components.
  • Advise on parts selection based on internal and external test data.
  • Develop test plans, conduct tests, and produce detailed reports.
  • Lead program personnel through test procedures to meet cost and schedule constraints.
  • Execute radiation effects testing events at external facilities.
  • Serve as a technical reference and subject‑matter expert on radiation effects.
  • Drive improvements to Collins’ radiation test capabilities following industry best practices.
Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship with eligibility to obtain a Top Secret DoD security clearance.
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years experience.
  • Electrical testing experience: test design, troubleshooting, execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Circuit design experience: schematic capture, PCB layout, and board design guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with digital design and familiarity with RF concepts or RF test equipment.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting with laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and power meters.
  • Knowledge of test automation using LabVIEW or Python.
  • Understanding of semiconductor device operation and basic nuclear physics concepts relevant to electronic parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and perform statistical analysis of test data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and presentations.
  • Proficiency in managing tasks and meeting cost, schedule, and performance objectives with minimal oversight.
