Summary

As a Facilities Specialist, this role manages complex infrastructure projects from inception to completion. The position serves as a technical lead, assisting with contractor selection and management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to exact specifications. By collaborating with management on equipment placement and site planning, this role identifies and mitigates risks, and ensures the facility HVAC systems are designed and installed correctly and will meet the requirements for a given Lab effort.

Detailed Description

Specialist level position for employees who provide engineering support to perform tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

Performs routine inspections of Facility systems - HVAC, plumbing, water quality equipment to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Respond to emergency repairs to minimize facility downtime and disruption to operations

Coordinates contract services, inspections and audits as necessary.

Manages multiple projects varying in complexity using solid project management skills and tools.

Monitors and reports progress status of projects along with quality, schedule, safety, security, productivity, administration, worksite appearance to site management team and evaluates contractors on these aspects. Ensures compliance with applicable government EHS regulations.

Must have a background operating as a mechanical specialist who plans and creates heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for buildings and labs. They calculate thermal loads, select equipment, and draw blueprints to ensure safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient indoor climates.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
    • Familiarity with NFPA 70e program for electrical safety in general.
    • Familiarity with best work practices
    • Ability to evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
    • Ability to evaluate materials, gather and analyze data and determine root cause of problems.
    • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and coordinate multiple, changing deadlines.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external customers
Physical Demands

Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.

Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.

Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

Typical Experience
  • Ten years of relevant experience acting as an HVAC design engineer.
Typical Education
  • GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a construction trade environment.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license or an ASHRAE Certification would be a plus.
  • Educational requirements may vary by geography.
