Interim Controller (CONTRACT)

Fully Onsite (5 days/week) – Richardson, TX

One of Vaco's clients is looking for a strong hands‑on Controller with government contracts/defense experience. The company is acquisitive. They want a process‑focused accountant who can bring ideas to the table, establish internal control, and lead process improvement initiatives.

• Oversee all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, billing, cash management, and month‑end close
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Maintain balance sheet integrity, including reconciliations and supporting schedules
• Support preparation of P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting for management and corporate stakeholders
• Oversee and administer the company 401(k) plan, including compliance, reporting, audits, and coordination with third‑party administrators
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax filings and payments (federal, state, and local)
• Oversee federal income tax
• Manage sales and use tax compliance, registrations, and audit support

• 7+ years progressive accounting and finance experience
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field, or equivalent experience
• CPA preferred
• Experience in the govcon/defense industry preferred
• $30‑$150M annual revenue range
• Proficiency with Quick Books and Deltek
• Strong communicator, efficient worker

Hourly rate: $70–$80/hr the individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses. Benefits include medical, dental, vision coverage and participation in the company 401(k) retirement plan.
