Director of Finance Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Finance to lead all financial operations of a growing professional services organization. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing accounting, payroll, cash management, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and team development.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of financial expertise, operational leadership, and business acumen. This individual will play a key role in supporting executive leadership through financial analysis, strategic planning, and the implementation of best practices that drive organizational growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Accounting Operations
  • Lead and oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, treasury management, and general ledger activities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and all applicable financial regulations.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes.
  • Oversee month‑end close and account reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Partner with external accountants, auditors, and financial advisors to support reporting and compliance requirements.
Strategic Financial Management
  • Provide financial insights, reporting, and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial performance metrics.
  • Support organizational growth initiatives through strategic planning and financial analysis.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
  • Assist with annual audits and other financial reviews.
Team Leadership
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and supervise accounting team members.
  • Establish clear expectations, provide ongoing coaching, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performing finance team.
  • Promote professional growth and continuous learning within the department.
Communication & Relationship Management
  • Serve as a key financial resource across the organization.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with leadership, employees, clients, consultants, vendors, bankers, and service providers.
  • Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to both financial and non‑financial stakeholders.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and support to team members and business partners.
Risk Management & Compliance
  • Oversee cash flow management and financial risk assessment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records to support financial operations and compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Support quality control initiatives that minimize risk and strengthen operational performance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibility.
  • Experience working within organizations generating approximately $15M to $30M in annual revenue preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger accounting, cash flow management, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Proven experience supervising and developing accounting professionals.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to leadership development and continuing education.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems, financial software, and Microsoft Office applications.
