Surgical Tech Certified - Operating Room

Job Description

An experienced Surgical Technician II Certified will collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide the best care for patients. The Technician ensures all equipment, instrumentation, and supplies are available, anticipates surgeon needs, handles instruments, supplies, and equipment during the procedure, and participates in setting up and turning over the operating room.

• Anticipate needs of the surgical team and provide instrumentation and supplies as needed.
• Pass instruments to surgeon and assistant during procedures.
• Assist with terminal cleaning of the room and preparation for the following case.
• Clean back table and prepare instruments for terminal cleaning and sterilization while the circulator prepares the patient to leave.
• Place instruments back in the tray for transport to the Surgical Processing Department.
• Follow all policies and procedures such as count policy, universal protocol, and labeling of medications.
• Instruct students and inexperienced staff on correct methods for passing and retrieving instruments during surgical procedures.

• High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent.
• Graduate of certified Surgical Technologist program, military trained, or Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology preferred.
• Basic Life Support certified.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
• Advanced competencies in a minimum of 3 specialties (specialties to be determined by each hospital).
