Overview
The Director, Data Architecture will own the design and implementation of our Databricks Lakehouse architecture, including bronze/silver/gold layers, dimensional modeling, data governance, and production-grade pipelines. This role ensures that our data is trusted, accessible, and actionable for business units across Operations, Finance, Marketing, and beyond.
Responsibilities- Architect & Implement Lakehouse Standards
- Define and enforce bronze/silver/gold layer standards in Databricks.
- Design conformed dimensional models (e.g., , , ) and star-schema gold marts.
- Governance & Compliance
- Implement Unity Catalog for access control, lineage, and PII classification.
- Establish data contracts, schema evolution policies, and metric governance processes.
- Pipeline Development
- Build production-grade pipelines using Delta Lake, Databricks Workflows, and Delta Live Tables.
- Implement CDC and SCD Type 2 patterns for dimensions and facts.
- Enable Analytics & BI
- Deliver curated datasets and semantic layers for Power BI and Databricks SQL.
- Define and maintain KPI catalog for consistent business reporting.
- Operational Excellence
- Stand up data quality checks, observability dashboards, and incident runbooks.
- Drive CI/CD best practices for data (Git Ops, automated testing, environment promotion).
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as Data Product Owner for core domains (Service Ops, Finance, Marketing).
- Partner with IT, Security, and business stakeholders to align data strategy with corporate goals.
- 7+ years in data architecture or analytics engineering, with at least 2 years in Databricks Lakehouse (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows).
- Expert in dimensional modeling (Kimball), CDC, and SCD Type 2 implementations.
- Strong experience with CI/CD for data pipelines and governance frameworks.
- Proven ability to establish data contracts and manage schema evolution.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in field services, HVAC, plumbing, or similar industries.
- Familiarity with Power BI semantic modeling and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of dbt or similar transformation frameworks.
