This role will be based in Richardson, TX.
Work must be performed on site in the specified office on a full‑time basis due to business needs. The role may require evening or overnight shifts (3:00 PM - 12:00 AM or 11:00 PM - 8:00 AM).
The Associate Data Center Hardware Engineer is a hands‑on technical role focused on ensuring the reliability and performance of Linked In's global infrastructure. Responsibilities include executing hardware break‑fix activities, providing advanced troubleshooting support, and acting as an escalation point for contracted data center technicians. The engineer partners with vendors, mentors contract staff, and drives consistency in service delivery across all Linked In data center operations.
Responsibilities- Perform break‑fix repairs, including replacing failed drives, DIMMs, fans, power supplies, and other server or network hardware components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues from contracted technicians, applying diagnostics and escalating unresolved issues to Data Center Hardware Engineers or Linked In engineering teams as needed.
- Install new SSDs and NVMe drives into existing servers.
- Conduct basic Linux OS and IPMI‑level troubleshooting across all server platforms.
- Assist Linked In engineers with troubleshooting and resolving autobuild (Linux Kickstart) failures, including straggler nodes.
- Diagnose and resolve physical‑layer network connectivity issues.
- Execute hardware installations and repairs outside the scope of planned quarterly organic growth projects.
- Actively monitor and engage with the Jira ticket queue, ensuring proper ticket handling and quality resolution by contracted data center technicians.
- Participate in onboarding new contracted data center technicians, including training on daily operational tasks.
- Serve as a technical mentor for contracted data center technicians, providing training and guidance to improve quality and consistency.
- Participate in an on‑call rotation to support global data center operations.
- 1+ year in a data center engineering role.
- 1+ year of Linux troubleshooting experience.
- 1+ year of server hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent industry experience.
- 2+ years in a data center engineering role.
- 2+ years of Linux troubleshooting experience.
- 2+ years of server hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Hardware deployment & installation.
- Project management.
- Ticketing systems (Jira, Service Now).
- Linux/Unix.
- Server and network troubleshooting.
Linked In is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $74,000 to $122,000, with compensation packages based on factors such as skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific location.
