About the role
The HVAC Service Manager is an operational supervisor who leads HVAC technicians that install, repair, service, and maintain Commercial and Multi-Family HVAC systems, building equipment systems for light/heavy commercial customers such as restaurants, hospitals, high rise residential and retail stores.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Recruit, hire, train, and motivate field technicians, fostering a culture aligned with company values.
- Provide ongoing mentorship, coaching, and technical support to technicians to enhance their skills and meet service demands.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals, set clear improvement goals, and inspire technicians to achieve their professional objectives.
- Identify training needs and facilitate the delivery of a regular training program, ensuring staff are proficient in the latest service techniques and safety procedures.
- Foster a positive, high-energy, and collaborative work environment for the entire department.
Operational Management:
- Collaborate routinely with dispatch to optimize scheduling based on skill level, efficiency, and training requirements.
- Oversee the accuracy of work orders, invoices, and time reports, and support collections personnel to minimize accounts receivables.
- Develop and monitor departmental goals and objectives to ensure profitability.
- Manage the assigned service vehicle fleet, ensuring proper maintenance, adherence to company policy, and adequate inventory of parts and materials.
- Communicate daily with dispatch, providing comprehensive project information, estimated completion times, labor hours, and material usage.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Review technicians' work, techniques, and safety adherence to ensure quality meets established standards, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Ensure all employee safety training and compliance requirements are met.
- Maintain communication regarding warranty issues, operational problems, and premature failures.
Customer & Stakeholder Relations:
- Work directly with customers, vendors, and suppliers to ensure accurate communication of job or project management requirements.
- Resolve complex customer and technician issues in the field, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate effectively with other departmental managers to achieve overall company and departmental goals.
Other duties as assigned to maintain efficient departmental operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent and successful HVAC service management experience.
- Advanced proficiency in the service, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems and equipment (Required).
- Strong customer service and sales acumen.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven ability to generate ideas and implement processes that drive departmental growth and efficiency.
- Ability to interpret and apply information from technical documents, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with management, executive leadership, support staff, and technicians.
- Flexibility and willingness to work a non-standard schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
- Strong technical aptitude with in-depth knowledge of local codes and the ability to independently research solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
- Possess a strong personal drive for continuous improvement and a genuine desire to motivate and develop plumbing technicians.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and successful background check required.
- 2-year technical training program or equivalent (preferred).
- Solid working knowledge of Google Suite and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software systems.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English) is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions typical of field operations.
- Meet similar physical demands as field personnel.
