Overview:
The University of Texas at Dallas is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Vice President for Engineering, Construction, and Planning within the Facilities Management department. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in overseeing the strategic planning, development, and execution of construction projects, maintenance, and engineering initiatives on our campus. This role is responsible for the program management, contract administration, inspection, and campus facilities planning for all institutionally managed and capital construction projects.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study with ten years of related professional work experience and 3 or more years of supervisory experience.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: 15 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related fields, with at least 7 years in a leadership role. Understanding of governmental and higher education budgeting, policies, and practices associated with facilities management preferred.

Project Management: Proven experience in successfully managing complex construction projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and quality control.

Leadership

Skills:

Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and lead a multifaceted team. Demonstrated success in fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including university leadership, faculty, staff, and external partners.

Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and industry standards. Familiarity with sustainable and energy-efficient construction practices.

Strategic Vision: A strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to the overall vision and mission of the university. Proven ability to align construction and engineering initiatives with institutional goals. Successful and progressive professional experience in facilities planning and management in higher education preferred.

Certifications: Professional certification or registration in the State of Texas as a Professional Engineer or Architect or the ability to obtain certification within six months is required. This requirement can be waived at the option of hiring supervisor if other professional certifications are held.

Additional Qualifications: Ability to work with executive management, academic community, peers, subordinates, outside architects, engineers, and contractors.
