Role Overview

Embark on a journey as a Senior Principal Systems Engineer at Collins Aerospace, modernizing the U.S. Air Force Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) capability. You will lead system engineering activities across the entire lifecycle, from pursuit to qualification, in a high‑stakes aerospace environment.

What You Will Do
  • Lead projects spanning pursuit, order capture, trade study, system design, requirements definition and allocation, traceability, use‑case development for software/hardware, systems integration, verification & qualification.
  • Direct System and Product Design, requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition, integration and test, and aircraft‑level system integration.
  • Architect Software‑Defined System solutions and drive software development (Python, Java, Go, etc.).
  • Deploy Linux‑based network technologies and services (routing protocols, DHCP, DNS, PXE, TFTP, HTTP, NTP, PTP, etc.).
  • Provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams, lead effective sessions and mentor team members.
  • Apply SysML concepts for system modeling across the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Develop and execute risk mitigation plans and ensure technical risk management.
  • Build trusted relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Coordinate with business units for portfolio roadmap alignment.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • STEM degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 7 years.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience leading system & product design, requirements management, risk management, interface definition, integration and test, and aircraft‑level integration.
  • Experience defining Software‑Defined System architectures.
  • Software development experience (Python, Java, Go, etc.).
  • Hands‑on Linux network technologies and services deployment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing virtual machines, hyper‑converged infrastructure on bare metal.
  • Experience with application containers (Docker), Kubernetes clusters, and IaC (Ansible, Terraform, Helm).
  • Open‑system architecture development across all program phases.
  • Trade study, Make/Buy decision making, and regulatory certification (TSO, DO‑160, DO‑254, DO‑178B/C, ARP‑4754).
  • Networking protocols: MIL‑STD‑1553B, ARINC 661, TCP/IP.
  • Agile development experience.
  • Zero Trust security framework implementation.
  • Cross‑Domain Solution (CDS) information assurance.
  • Model‑based systems engineering tools (Magic Draw, CAMEO, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect).
  • Distributed storage (Longhorn, Ceph) and service meshes (Istio, Consul).
  • UEFI systems (secure boot, signing keys, PXE).
