Role Description

As a Principal Systems Engineer you will support programs modernizing the U.S. Air Force Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) capabilities. What You Will Do
  • Track, report, and manage program scope, cost, and schedule execution.
  • Apply Earned Value Management principles to provide accurate Estimate to Complete (ETC) updates.
  • Provide monthly variance analyses for associated Control Accounts.
  • Identify and manage risks and opportunities for assigned subsystems.
  • Collaborate to capture, analyze, decompose, and trace system requirements.
  • Leverage JIRA to decompose epics and features into user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Plan and execute project‑level work to meet schedules, costs, and performance goals.
  • Manage technical risks by evaluating design aspects and requirements.
  • Represent the Systems Engineering team in customer and internal meetings.
  • Bridge functional discipline groups and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Engage in classified lab environments to apply expertise hands‑on (onsite presence required).
  • Travel occasionally to support program requirements.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree, or 5 years of experience with 12 years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Active and transferable U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience with systems engineering teams.
  • Effective communication skills at all management levels and with stakeholders.
  • Track record in capturing customer requirements, operational concept development, and deriving/tracing system and subsystem requirements.
  • Experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM) and in conducting root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering Development Life‑Cycle.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with MBSE tools such as Magic Draw, CAMEO, Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience with requirements tools such as DOORS.
  • Expertise in building complex SysML models (activity, state, block diagrams, use cases).
  • Proficiency in Excel Macros and Visual Basic.
  • Agile experience as Scrum Master, Product Owner, or other Agile leadership role.
  • Knowledge of Project Management, Control Account Management (CAM), and earned value.
  • Familiarity with bidding and project/task estimation tools (e.g., SEER).
  • Competence in peer review processes, configuration and change management.
  • Understanding of military concepts of operations or radio performance standards.
