Job Summary

The Integrative Laryngeal Bio Physiology Lab (UT Larynx Lab) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow with expertise in biomedical engineering, signal processing, and big data analysis. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to active NIH-funded research programs focused on the use of motion capture technology to investigate perilaryngeal-respiratory kinematic patterns and coordinative relationships in individuals with and without functional voice disorders, including primary muscle tension dysphonia.

Additionally, the role involves advanced research using high-density surface electromyography (HD-sEMG) and electroencephalography (EEG) to examine perilaryngeal motor unit neural control and corticomuscular integration in hyperfunctional voice disorders. The lab operates within a collaborative environment spanning The University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center.

The salary for Post-Doctoral Research Associates in BBS is determined by years of experience per the current NIH (NRSA) stipend levels. Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications. This appointment is for 1 year with the possibility of renewal. Continued employment is contingent on availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.

Candidates who have successfully completed all requirements for the Ph.D. but whose degree has not yet been formally conferred may be eligible to begin employment provided they submit an official letter from the Registrar or Graduate School of the degree-granting institution certifying that all doctoral requirements have been satisfied and specifying the expected date of conferral. Appointment and continued employment are contingent upon formal conferral of the Ph.D.

Preferred

Education and Experience

Preferred

Education and Experience

* Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.

* Familiarity with grant writing and securing research funding.

Other Qualifications

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

* Design and conduct experiments related to laryngeal muscle biophysiology, vocal subsystem biomechanics, and sensorimotor voice disorders, with a focus on perilaryngeal-respiratory kinematic patterns and coordinative relationships in individuals with and without functional voice disorders (primary muscle tension dysphonia).

* Lead participant recruitment, data acquisition, processing, analysis, and interpretation for the motion capture R01, and develop novel motion capture techniques and analytical approaches relevant to perilaryngeal-respiratory kinematics and sensorimotor voice disorders.

* Run participants through the HD-sEMG-EEG protocol and acquire, process, and analyze high-density surface electromyography (HD-sEMG) and electroencephalography (EEG) data, including motor unit decomposition and corticomuscular coherence analyses to characterize perilaryngeal motor control and central-peripheral neural mechanisms in hyperfunctional voice disorders.

* Applying cutting edge analysis techniques to motion capture kinematic datasets, including the development of novel pipelines for identifying perilaryngeal-respiratory coordinative patterns and biomarkers of vocal hyperfunction.

* Lead the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and national conferences.

* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians and…
