Job Summary
The Brain Circuits Laboratory, led by Drs. Ana Solodkin and Steven Small, is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research associate, in the computational modeling for early diagnosis of Alzheimer Disease.
This position will utilize model-based and model free metrics as individual fingerprinting for early diagnosis in dementia specially in Alzheimer Disease. The approach seeks to assess brain dynamics to provide a mechanistic assessment in converters to AD. The modeling approach will utilize The Virtual Brain neuroinformatics platform. The work entails significant effort in computational neuroscience and biophysics. This position is tied to the North Texas Alzheimer Disease Research Center and is funded by the NIH.
This position is in the Department of Neuroscience in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD - bbs.utdallas.edu), in collaboration with the Department of Neurology at UT Southwestern (UTSW). UTD is the fastest growing University in Texas, and until reaching its 50th anniversary recently, was ranked number 1 in the nation among universities less than 50 years old.

The Solodkin/Small Brain Circuits Laboratory is located in the Texas Instruments Biomedical Engineering and Sciences Building on the campus of UT Southwestern Medical Center. Address: 2336 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75235. The lab benefits from close proximity to world-class research facilities, including:
* The UT Dallas Center for Brain Health (featuring two Siemens Prisma 3T MRI systems)
* The UT Dallas Center for Vital Longevity, a leading institute for brain aging research
* The Advanced Imaging Research Center at UT Southwestern (housing a 7T MRI scanner and a MEG unit)
* The Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center

The salary for Post-Doctoral Research Associates in BBS is determined by years of experience per the current NIH (NRSA) stipend levels. Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications. This appointment is for 1 year with the possibility of renewal. Continued employment is contingent on availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.
Candidates who have successfully completed all requirements for the Ph.D. but whose degree has not yet been formally conferred may be eligible to begin employment provided they submit an official letter from the Registrar or Graduate School of the degree-granting institution certifying that all doctoral requirements have been satisfied and specifying the expected date of conferral. Appointment and continued employment are contingent upon formal conferral of the Ph.D.

* A minimum of two first-author papers published or accepted in impactful peer-reviewed journals
* A firm background in human neuroscience, computational and statistical methods.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Basic knowledge in systems and/or cognitive neuroscience
* Significant knowledge and experience in computational neuroscience and/or biophysics
* Familiarity with brain imaging analysis acquisition
* Knowledge of multivariate statistics and/or digital signal processing
* Proficiency in Python. Parallel computing processing experience is highly appreciated.
* Creative thinking skills and a predisposition for problem solving
* Kindness and ability to work collaboratively
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Strong proficiency in the English language (both written and verbal)
