About the Position

The Nguyen Lab is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to work on NIH‑funded projects focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying epilepsy. We are a basic and translational neuroscience research laboratory in the Department of Neuroscience and School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at the University of Texas earch in our lab aims to understand the neurobiological mechanisms of brain development and how dysregulation of intracellular signaling pathways contributes to neurodevelopmental disorders, such as malformations of cortical development and epilepsy.

The salary for Post‑Doctoral Research Associates in BBS is determined by years of experience. Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications. This appointment is for 1 year with the possibility of renewal. Continued employment is contingent on availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

Candidate Profile
  • Strong background in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines.
  • Solid publication record.
  • Scientific curiosity and the desire and ability to work independently.
Lab Environment

Postdoctoral associates in the lab will have opportunities to apply for independent funding, travel to scientific conferences, and network with other academics. They will receive strong support from the PI, who is committed to mentoring postdoctoral associates toward successful careers in academia or industry.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in a related field.
  • Candidates who have successfully completed all requirements for the Ph.D. but whose degree has not yet been formally conferred may be eligible to begin employment provided they submit an official letter from the Registrar or Graduate School of the degree‑granting institution certifying that all doctoral requirements have been satisfied and specifying the expected date of conferral.
  • Appointment and continued employment are contingent upon formal conferral of the Ph.D.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in neuroscience.
  • Strong background in in vivo mouse models, mouse surgery and behavioral procedures, mouse handling and colony management, histology, biochemical assays, and molecular biology techniques (western blotting, RT‑qPCR, etc.).
  • Experience in electrophysiology or rodent EEG recordings, experimental seizure models, and computational techniques will be viewed favorably.
Other Qualifications

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

  • Ability to independently design, conduct, and analyze original research.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic and advanced laboratory techniques and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in computer applications used to record, analyze, and report findings.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Commitment to high standards in research ethics, rigor, and reproducibility.
Travel

Occasional travel may occur for training/development, conferences, etc.
