Postdoctoral Research Associate
Postdoctoral positions (2) in the areas of peptide chemistry/engineering, protein engineering/design, and biocatalysis are available in the laboratory of Rudi Fasan in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Texas . Fasan is seeking candidates who are interested to work at the interface of chemistry and biology within a highly interactive and motivated group of colleagues. We are looking for enthusiastic and ambitious scientists with an established background in each of the relevant areas noted below.
Area A:
Research Focus– synthesis and evolution of macrocyclic peptides as selective inhibitors/modulators of cancer-related targets. Projects– involve peptide chemistry, peptide engineering, and molecular display/selection technologies, and activity screening assays. Established Background– Organic/Bioorganic/Peptide Chemistry
Area B:
Research Focus– design and development of engineered and artificial enzymes for biocatalysis and asymmetric synthesis Projects– involve biocatalysis, protein engineering/directed evolution/design, and mechanistic enzymology. Established Background
- Biocatalysis/Protein Engineering/Enzymology
Area C:
Research Focus– development and investigation of novel biocatalytic methods for asymmetric synthesis and selective functionalization of drug molecules. Projects– will involve organic synthesis, method development, biocatalysis and chemoenzymatic synthesis. Established Background– Organic Chemistry/Synthetic Methodology
Minimum Education and Experience
- Ph.D in a related field. Preferred
Education and Experience
- Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or related field. The ideal candidates should have a PhD degree in Chemistry or related field, strong synthetic organic chemistry skills, excellent communication skills, and a proven record of scientific accomplishments. Prior experience with protein chemistry and molecular biology techniques is a plus but not required.
Other Qualifications
- To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct, and direct a wide variety of experiments. Responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of research data. Conduct experiments using advanced equipment and applying complex techniques, methods and procedures. Develop research protocols and supervise graduate or undergraduate researchers. Prepare written reports and contribute to the writing of research articles techniques, methods and procedures.
