Role Description

This full-time, on-site Diesel Mechanic role is based in Richardson, TX and supports the safe, efficient operation of the district’s transportation fleet. The Diesel Mechanic inspects, diagnoses, and repairs diesel-powered school buses and other district vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and electrical systems. Daily responsibilities include performing scheduled preventive maintenance, completing work orders, documenting repairs, and maintaining accurate service records in accordance with district and regulatory standards.

The role involves using diagnostic tools, hand and power tools, and service manuals to identify mechanical issues and determine appropriate repairs. The Diesel Mechanic also helps ensure vehicles meet safety and inspection requirements, responds to road calls or breakdowns as needed, and collaborates with transportation and operations staff to minimize vehicle downtime.

Qualifications
  • Strong skills in Diesel Mechanics with hands-on experience servicing diesel engines and related systems.
  • Proficiency in Vehicle Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and safety checks.
  • Experience with Equipment Maintenance and Heavy Equipment, particularly school buses or similar commercial vehicles.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, service manuals, and technical documentation to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety, environmental, and transportation regulations; commitment to safe work practices.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical training or certification in diesel or automotive technology preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain a CDL with appropriate endorsements, if required by the district.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, working under vehicles, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Effective communication skills, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a maintenance team.
