Job DescriptionAccountant responsible for processing, recording, updating, and reconciling fiscal information, and generating periodic reports in accordance with established financial practices for the Sevier School District.
Responsibilities- Analyze financial information to identify budget variances, develop procedures, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Reconcile, monitor, and submit reimbursement requests for funding programs and aid program directors in monitoring budgets.
- Assist auditors by providing supporting documentation and coordinating audit activities.
- Collaborate with district personnel and external agencies to implement and maintain financial services and programs.
- Compile statistical and financial data for third‑party reporting and budget recommendations.
- Coordinate accounting projects such as database development, annual budgets, grant reports, and financial claims.
- Develop reporting processes, procedures, and internal controls to maintain efficient financial flow.
- Implement accounting procedures to provide internal financial controls across the organization.
- Manage student and staff data, attendance reports, and accident reports ensuring accuracy.
- Monitor expenditures against budgets and account information to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
- Participate in unit meetings, trainings, and workshops to gather required information.
- Perform personnel functions such as monitoring, supervising, and evaluating staff in the business office.
- Prepare finance‑related documents (reports, recommendations, policies) for documentation and reference.
- Present financial and reported information to stakeholders, seek feedback, and ensure internal controls.
- Provide technical expertise and direction to staff on accounting issues and financial activities.
- Recommend policies and procedures that affect financial operations and aid decision‑making.
- Reconcile fiscal information and account balances to verify accuracy and comply with practices.
- Research financial and administrative topics to supply information and recommendations.
- Respond to inquiries from internal and external sources to provide information and referrals.
- Supervise accounting functions for the district and schools (payroll, accounts payable, school finance).
- Train staff on proper accounting practices to ensure compliance with fund accounting and GAAP.
- Validate payroll allocations between programs to ensure proper fund utilization.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to sustain effective operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Three or more years of professional accounting, finance, budgeting, auditing, or related experience.
- Preferable:
Master’s degree and CPA certification. - At least five years of experience in grant management, budgeting, and Utah school accounting.
- Knowledge of principles of accounting and auditing, governmental accounting practices, and relevant codes, policies, regulations, and laws.
- Skills in operating office equipment, accounting procedures, project planning and management, and accurate record maintenance.
