Purpose:

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include: excavators, rock trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, skid steers, man lifts, and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures

Responsibilities

- Operate all heavy equipment (Dozers, Excavators, Lifts, Loaders, Trucks and others) in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant industry standards, policies, and site procedures

- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks

- Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required

- Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored at close of shift

- Advise direct supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs

- Participate in routine maintenance

- Maintain a clean and safe work environment

- All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Education

High School diploma/GED or equivalent required

Experience

3+ years of dedicated heavy equipment operation experience with excavators, dozers, skid steers, and rock trucks

Physical Requirements

- Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where PPE is required. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done

- Ability to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting into and out of equipment through the use of vertical mounted ladders up to and including 10' or more in height

- Ability to traverse uneven ground and steep hillsides to access worksites, equipment, vehicles, and/or supplies

- Ability to visually see equipment operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses)

- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, or sit for long periods of time

- Ability to work at elevated heights

- Ability to lift up to 50 lb. objects as required

- Ability to carry up to 50 lb. objects as required

- Adapt to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure

- Ability to execute duties in the scope of employment in all-weather conditions

- Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week including weekend assignments and holidays as required

Licenses or Certifications

- Valid driver's license

- CDL license is preferred
