Overview

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is organized into Directorates focused on scientific research or functions, each with its own leadership, budget, and responsibilities. The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides essential financial, procurement, sales, and project management services under PNNL’s management and operations contract with the Department of Energy. BSD aims to enable efficient, effective, and compliant business operations that enhance PNNL’s scientific impact and offers opportunities for financial professionals to grow and contribute to high-impact projects.

• Finance & Accounting professional performs a variety of financial and/or accounting activities, including the maintenance, control, analysis, and development of complex financial/accounting records, reports, and systems, and their ongoing support.
• Provide or assist in business advice and services to management and staff to ensure compliance with applicable federal laws, regulations, policies, and sound business practices; adhere to and communicate business policies and procedures, including training and interpretation for the supported organizations.
• Perform key accounting tasks in one or more of the following areas:
  General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Property Management, Treasury Services, Accounts Payable, Payroll & Tax, and Travel Services.
• Conduct monthly analyses to provide management information on costs and financial performance.
• Provide technical support to others for accounting entries, account reconciliations, and general accounting questions.
• Prepare, review, and validate financial data; document procedures to ensure compliance with government accounting requirements.
• Support internal and external auditors as directed by management.
• Advise and service management and staff to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and good business practices; assist in communicating and training on business policies and procedures.
• Develop solutions to standard problems requiring ingenuity and creativity; identify opportunities and risks and make recommendations affecting organizational objectives.
• Interact with internal and external personnel; mentor and motivate junior team members and utilize their strengths; work with moderate guidance and seek collaborative opportunities.
• This position requires onsite work a minimum of two days per week; when working remotely, maintain the same standards and be ready to go onsite on short notice to meet business needs.

• Minimum Qualifications: BS/BA and 2+ years of relevant experience, or MS/MA or higher.
• Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Battelle's financial systems and processes; proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel and Access); knowledge of FAR, DEAR, Cost Accounting Standards and PNNL Charging Guidelines.
